In collaboration with BeYoung the Gates, we are hosting a one-night introduction course to sound engineering to start to build expertise, confidence and networks in sound engineering. Get to know how a sound system works, routines for setting up sound equipment and good practice for creating sound for live events!
This GRIP course is open to everyone of all ages (including under 18s!). We emphasize our aim to welcome more women, non-binary and transgender people in sound technician roles in Bergen’s cultural organisations. No previous experience is necessary.
Instructor Priscilla Miranda Navas (she) works as a freelance sound engineer and technical assistant at the production company Wrap, after completing the GRIP course in 2021. She frequently works with sound and production at cultural venues and festivals such as Prøverommet, Bergen Kjøtt, Borealis—a festival for experimental music, Vill Vill Vest, Høydenfestivalen, EKKO Festival, and Nattjazz. She also collaborates with Barnelørdag in the city’s neighborhoods, a free cultural program offered by the City of Bergen to families with children. Priscilla has a background in music, engineering, and culinary arts, and brings these skills to her work as a sound engineer. She looks forward to sharing her experience and knowledge through this GRIP introductory course.

This course will help you to start building experience in operating lights for concerts, clubs and live events.
GRIP is open to anyone over the age of 18, and we emphasize our goal of welcoming more women, non-binary and transgender people in sound and lighting engineering roles in Bergen’s cultural organizations. No previous experience is needed.
Instructor Ola Fredenlund (he) has worked as a full-time lighting technician in Bergen for over 10 years. He started as a volunteer for Kraftetaten at Det Akademiske Kvarter and has since worked his way up in the industry. He has experience with all types of concerts, theater, festivals, and events, and has handled every aspect of the job as a rigger, systems technician, lighting operator, and designer. Some of his projects include Bergenfest, Festspillene i Bergen, and regular comedy shows at Ole Bull Scene and Peer Gynt-teatret at Gålå.

Instructor Maja Bergebakken Sundt (she/her) is a versatile theater professional and lighting designer based in Bergen. She holds a master’s degree in theater studies from the University of Bergen. She has worked as a producer for several theaters and festivals in Bergen and Western Norway, and occasionally writes theater reviews as a freelancer. As a lighting designer, Maja has worked in dance, theater, concerts, and festivals. She has designed lighting for works by Maia Urstad, Jonathan Ibsen, Nate Wooley, Anna Meredith, Lisa Teige, and Frode Gjerløw, among others. She takes a conceptual approach to highlighting the dramaturgy of a piece and creates a spatial atmosphere that both evokes and challenges.
